Unique S'Mores to Make This Summer
There is no “right way” to build a s’more, at least in our opinion. While the classic version never disappoints, there are plenty of creative ways to combine ingredients to make something delicious. Whatever combination you choose, we recommend you add a dollop of Once Again Nut or Seed Butters for a creamy, satisfying easy s’mores upgrade!
If you’re searching for a few new twists on the traditional summer s’more, look no further! We reached out to Once Again employees and asked them to share they’re favorite s’mores recipes and here’s what they said.
Once Again Employee Favorites
Employees agree that Once Again Honey Graham Crackers make a good classic base, but for a touch of decadence, try the Cinnamon and Dark Chocolate varieties too. Roast your marshmallow and then try one of these fun ideas!
1. Double Peanut Butter
Any nut or seed butter will work for this s’more, but peanut butter is always a delicious pairing for chocolate and graham crackers. After topping a bottom graham cracker half with chocolate, add a dollop of peanut butter. Add another dollop to the top half and once your marshmallow is toasted, sandwich them together and let the s’more sit for a few minutes to melt a bit before enjoying.
Optional twist - add a few slices of fresh fruit or a bit of jelly for a fruity version.
2. Summer Sunflower
Start the same way as the double peanut butter s’more, but skip the second dollop of seed butter and instead, sprinkle a few toasted sunflower seeds over the base before adding your marshmallow.
Optional twist - go for a “trail mix” approach and add a few raisins or other dried fruit and a drizzle of honey.
3. Caramel Delight
Top the bottom graham cracker half with chocolate, then add a dollop of cashew butter followed by a few chopped cashews. Cover with a toasted marshmallow, along with a pinch of sea salt and either a small drizzle of caramel sauce or caramel candy. Cover with the top graham cracker and let sit to melt before enjoying.
Optional twist - Add a few flakes of toasted coconut or crushed toffee candy.
4. Super Sprinkles
Sprinkles add a fun touch to anything, including s’mores! Build your traditional s’more, but before you cover it with the top graham cracker, add a maraschino cherry and a dusting of sprinkles. Do this over a plate so that, once you’ve smashed your marshmallow, you can dip the gooey sides in whatever extra sprinkles landed on the plate.
Optional twist - Make things even more messy, I mean, delicious, by adding some whipped cream.
5. Tropical Vibes
Start with a base of graham cracker and dark chocolate. Cover with a toasted marshmallow, then garnish with toasted coconut and crumbled, freeze dried mango. To make this easier, crush the mango before you start your fire and place it in a bowl or zip top bag for easy scooping or pouring.
Optional twist - Go with a different fruit and try canned or fresh! Pineapple would be a delicious option and so would papaya or even kiwi!
6. Chocolate Strawberry Cheesecake
If you like cheesecake, then you’ll want to try this s’more! Start with a graham cracker, then add dark chocolate and a dollop of ricotta or cream cheese. Cover with a toasted marshmallow and sliced strawberries.
Optional twist - Swap in other fresh fruit for the strawberries or use jam or jelly in their place.
7. Cool Mint
The best mint s’more starts with a chocolate graham cracker base. Cover it with milk or dark chocolate and a toasted marshmallow. Add a dusting of crushed mint candy and cover with the top graham cracker.
Optional twist - Step up the mint flavor even more by swapping the traditional chocolate with a mint chocolate bar or other mint-flavored chocolate candy.
8. Elvis-style - Peanut Butter, banana, bacon and honey
To create a s’more that would make Elvis Presley swoon, try this version. Start with a graham cracker base swiped with peanut butter. Cover that with a banana and a toasted marshmallow, then follow with crumbled cooked bacon and a tiny drizzle of honey.
Optional twist - Swap crunchy peanut butter for smooth and add a few chopped peanuts.
How To Make a Delicious Once Again Campfire S’more Every Time
For the ultimate s’more experience, cook your marshmallow over a campfire, preferably after it’s been going for at least 10 to 15 minutes. Those big flames are pretty, but they’re better for burning your marshmallow than cooking it. Choose the right size stick or marshmallow fork and add the marshmallow. Make sure it’s fully on the stick before finding a nice smoldering part of the fire for cooking. Rotate your stick to evenly brown on all sides and pull it from the fire once you’ve got a puffy, golden marshmallow. As for the graham cracker, chocolate, and other toppings, prepare a few of these “bases” on foil before getting busy with your marshmallow. You can place them on the fire pit grate to warm while you cook. Once your marshmallow is ready, grab a top graham cracker half and a base and grip the cooked marshmallow between them as you carefully pull it off the stick. Finally, make sure you have plenty of wet paper towels nearby, because things are bound to get messy!
The campfire is great, but if you’re craving a s’more at home, you can also make them in the oven or airfryer! For an oven version, arrange graham cracker halves on a baking sheet. Cover half of them with chocolate and the other half with marshmallows. Bake at 425°F until marshmallows are golden, about 4 to 5 minutes. If using an air fryer, arrange the graham cracker halves, chocolate and marshmallow like you would for baking and cook at 350°F for about 2 to 3 minutes.
